Amédée Island New Caledonia

Amedee Island Lighth

"Where The Weather Is Always Nicer"

The Amédée lighthouse is an iron lighthouse located on Amédée Island, 24 km away from Nouméa, New Caledonia.

As soon as you disembark off the Cruise Ship buses are waiting to take you on your 8 hour-long journey with Amédée Island. The 45-minute rocky boat ride on the good old Mary D is worth it, Trust me it’s coming back you need to worry about. Once Mary D approaches Amédée all you can notice is the crystal clear water, white sandy beach, thick bush shrub and beach chairs lining the sand. When you have arrived on the dock everyone disembarks and the crazy rush begins to grab a beach chair on the white sandy beach. You are given an itinerary sheet with times of activities and an explanation of the wild life on the island especially the 'Tricots Rayés' that are striped snakes. Ask my family and they can explain what went down as soon as I put one foot in the water. They are dangerous but they can’t physically bite you as their fangs are at the back of their mouth.. I ended up hiring a body board so I didn't have to touch the bottom of the ocean. Call me a drama queen, I will deny that I am just very scared of animals in the sea! Which is quite hypocritical really because cruising is my favourite thing in the world.

Guests are welcome to hire out kayaks, body boards, snorkels as well as go back on the Mary D for a reef tour, which is absolutely beautiful they only do two tours of the reef, its not to miss. Guests can also go on the glass bottom boat to look at the local sea turtle, the abundance of fish and coral.

At lunchtime all of the guests are called up by the director, to the outside dining room where you are greeted by a cocktail of some sort. Everyone is then officially welcomed to the island with a buffet prepared by the staff and local people. Food ranged from fresh salads and seafood to roast beef, coconut rice and fresh fruits. It was satisfying. Traditional dancers who were honestly some of the most beautiful women in the world perform and entertain the guests. My family and I spent the rest of the day just lying on hot beach and swimming, Oh and me I was on look out for snakes. At the end of the day we made our way back to Noumea on The Mary D, At one point I thought the whole boat was going to capsize, it was extremely rough coming back as the weather wasn’t in our favour. I would highly recommend this shore tour; it was a really enjoyable day and 10 times better than hanging around Noumea. The staff were lovely and the island was extremely pristine.
